FLUGE ELIMINATED FROM WSOP, SUNDAY at 6PM!

More than 6,000 of the world’s greatest Texas Hold-em Poker players descended upon Las Vegas this weekend to play in the WSOP Main Event - the Grand Daddy of Poker. The winner hoped to win more than the $10 million dollar prize and WSOP bracelet - they hoped for bragging rights as the world’s greatest poker player.

By the end of Friday about 1200 players had been eliminated including 10 time champ Doyle Brunson. By Saturday’s finish another 1000 had bit the dust of the poker floors. FGA Adventurist, Nick Fluge played valiantly through another six hours on Sunday. His catholic altar boy upbringing forced him to maintain focus even though Shannon Elizabeth sat on the very next table. (Yes, Fluge has watched her ‘American Pie’ scene at least 10 times)!

Great past champs like Johnny Chan and Greg “Fossil Man” Raymer went out of the event early. The Unibomber (who always plays in the PDX charity event) also was out in about an hour.

At approximately 6pm on Sunday, Fluge and Phil Ivey went out at about the same time. Many call Phil the best poker player in the world. Ironically, last year, after outlasting over 6000 competitors, Fluge left Vegas for a Board meeting in Chicago, and Ivey stood only 4 places and a few hundred chips ahead of Fluge. Coincidence, or just two great players?

The end result was the same however, FGA failed to secure a follow up win to it’s SCCA championship season (maybe Fluge should stick to race cars). But, with all said, Fluge’s showing was respectable and he received kudos from the other PDX charity regular (Jennifer Tilly).

Watch for Fluge and Lowblad and the Perlingers in their two FGA cars as they compete in the Great American Run (aka Cannonball), beginning on July 29.

Fluge Wraps Up SCCA Racing Year with Victories

With the WSOP Main Event, the Cannonball Run, Mt. Kilimanjaro and Everest ahead, Nick Fluge completed his last road race of 2007 on July 1st with dual victories in both the sprint and main races of Group H and Class ITE.

The strong support and mentorship of Todd Harris (ProDrive), Motorsports Ambassador to the Fluge Adventure effort and the tremendous Crew Chief work by Steve Gatrell of ProFab led to Fluge’s 2007 successes.

A Novice in 2006 his license was upgraded this spring with a series of finishes that included no concrete wall crashes or black flags.  Fluge comes away with nothing less than 5 sprint and main race victories, the prestigious Festival Cup, and now holds 3 track records in his group and class (chicane and non-chicane).

Finally even though one race remains (which Fluge cannot attend due to his time on Kili in August), he has already secured enough points to win the SCCA Group H, Class ITE Championship to be awarded in November.

Stay tuned for an exciting July.

Fluge visits the Main Event of the WSOP next weekend, The Cannonball Run at the end of the month, and continuing strenuous physical training for Kilimanjaro 6 days a week.

Probably most fulfilling for the FGA team over the weekend, however was partnering with the Oregon Region SCCA Rally folks to help support the “Fluge Global Adventures Rally Against Parkinsons Disease”.

The large Rally event raised funds for Parkinson’s Resources of Oregon. The funds go to provide help and hope to
Parkinson’s victims and their families in Oregon and southern Washington. For more information visit http://www.parkinsonsresources.org/
